DIVERSITY OUTREACH INTERNSHIP OPENING AT MINNESOTA WOMEN'S POLITICAL CAUCUS EDUCATIONAL COUNCIL 

Minnesota Women's Political Caucus Educational Council, a nonprofit organization committed to educating and empowering women on the political process and on issues that advance the economic, social, and political equality of women throughout the state, seeks an intern for the 2008 Spring semester on the Diversity Outreach Project. The position is unpaid, part-time and flexible - and can be coordinated with intern for undergraduate credit.

The purpose of the Diversity Outreach Project (DOP) is to increase the political voice of women of color throughout Minnesota. The long-term goal is to increase the number of women of color running for office at all levels, thereby increasing the number of women in elected and appointed office. 

The strategy to accomplish this is to develop partnerships and relationships with recognized and emerging women leaders in Minnesota’s four primary racial/ethnic communities and to work together on issues of concern to women in each of these communities

Interns will have exposure to and opportunities to network with many community organizations and community organizers. Interns will work on developing DOP programs, including but not limited to: focus group, civic education training, and voter caucus training. Interns will also have access to various political events throughout the Twin Cities metro area. Regular office duties such as filing and data entry are also included in the intern’s responsibilities.

A qualified applicant will possess the following skills:

  • -Interest in the political process
  • -Interest in working with a diverse women's community
  • -Good communication skills, especially speaking with people at local events and on the phone
  • -A self-starting, positive, self-motivated personality and a sense of humor \
  • -Good organizational skills and the ability to perform many tasks simultaneously
  • -Computer literacy; preferably experience with PC's, Microsoft Word, Excel and Access -Independent and creative work habits
